Outpatient Defined

An individual (patient) who receives health care services (such as surgery) on an outpatient basis, meaning they do not stay overnight in a hospital or inpatient facility. Many insurance companies have identified a list of tests and procedures (including surgery) that will not be covered (paid for) unless they are performed on an outpatient basis. The term outpatient is also used synonymously with ambulatory to describe health care facilities where procedures are performed.

A 150,000-square-foot shopping center is planned where Martin Memorial Health Systems once hoped to build a hospital in St. Lucie West. The Stuart-based hospital doesn’t want to become a shopping center developer or owner, but had plans drawn up for The Crossings at St. Lucie West to make it more attractive for a future buyer.

Mental health center looks for Collier land donation

The David Lawrence Center is looking to expand its programs someday in Immokalee and a first step is securing the land underneath its Immokalee satellite office. That means convincing the Collier County Commission to donate the land to the nonprofit mental health center with stipulations if the center were to pull its operations out of Immokalee.

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - The Department of Veterans Affairs says it will open two new outpatient clinics in Arkansas. The agency said Thursday the clinics will be in Faulkner and Pope counties. The clinics are among 31 new facilities the VA is opening.
